KPHC’s Ono Grindz Contest Rules:

  1. No entry fee required.
  2. All entries must be received no later than August 6, 2008.  No entries will be accepted past the deadline.
  3. Each recipe must be original, unpublished, tested in your home kitchen, and may not have won any other recipe contest.
  4. Every participant is required to prepare enough dessert samples for 75 people or a large 12 quart pot of soup/stew prior to arriving to Kaumakapili Church.  Sample sizes will be about 4 ounces for each person.
  5. Soup/stew entries must be able to be reheated on-site to the appropriate temperature as indicated by contest officials.
  6. Participants are responsible for bringing their own burners/hotplates to reheat their soup/stew and serving utensils.  Contest organizers will provide 4 ounce sample cups and utensils for tastings only.
  7. All recipes must illustrate at least 2 of the healthy eating concepts:

a.                 Include whole grains (brown rice, beans, whole grain pasta, lentils, whole wheat flour, etc.)

b.                 Include colorful vegetables

c.                 Include fruit (Choose no sugar added fresh, frozen, canned or dried fruit)

d.                 Include calcium foods (Choose low-fat or fat-free milk products), low-fat or fat-free yogurt, low fat cheese, etc.)

e.                 Include low-fat or lean meats, poultry, or fish (chicken without skin, no frying)

f.                    Use less fat, sugar, and salt (limit butter, margarine, shortening and lard; limit sodium, limit added sugars)

  1. Recipes must contain exact measurements and entries must reflect what is written in the recipe.
  2. All entries become property of KPHC and will not be returned.  Recipes and photos may be used for promotion and/or advertising at the discretion of the KPHC.  All recipes used will credit the recipe’s creator.
  3. All entries into the competition agree to the rules and consent to releasing their name and recipe for use by KPHC.
